66th NORDBAU NEUMÜNSTER | 8 - 12 September 2021 | Wednesday - Sunday

The topics "digital construction site for the future" and "safe@Home - safety and comfort at home" are the focus at the 63rd edition of NordBau. In special shows, architects, civil engineers and various trades can interact with each other.

From the 5th to the 9th of September, 2018, NordBau’s 63rd edition will take place in the center of Schleswig-Holstein, at the Holstenhallen exhibition site in Neumünster – A meeting point and exchange platform for the construction industry and all construction managers in Northern Europe!

Ceremonial opening with many prominent guests

On Wednesday, 5th September 2018, the 63rd edition of NordBau will be opened at the Holstenhallen Neumünster, with a lot of prominent guests: The Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister, Daniel Günther, and His Excellency the Ambassador of Denmark from Berlin, Friis Arne Petersen, are expected to be there. Dieter Babiel, the new chief executive of the German construction industry association Hauptverband der Deutschen Bauindustrie, will take a stand on the topic “The fascination of construction in the digital working world of the construction industry”, and Udo Berner, chairman of "Deutschland baut (Germany is building)", will get the participants tuned in for the upcoming days of the trade fair.in a panel discussion on the important question: "How do young junior employees want to work in today’s digital construction world?"

"Digital Construction Site" – a challenge for the entire construction industry!
This year, NordBau will focus on "digital construction site". What will be addressed by the speakers during the opening event shall continue seamlessly in the exhibition halls: digitalization in the construction industry is progressing rapidly, offering great efficiency potential, but at the same time pose future-oriented challenges to everyone working in the building sector. The level of knowledge about digital construction planning and execution is very different among those responsible in the building industry and the handling of new technologies, and its software is not yet familiar to all. For this reason, the Association of the Construction Industry, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering e.V. (VDBUM), in cooperation with the Bau-ABC Rostrup training center of the Lower Saxony-Bremen construction industry association and colleagues from Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, will prepare this special topic in a practical way. This provides owners of construction companies with an excellent opportunity not only to inform workers at NordBau about streamlined and efficient work processes, but also to inspire them.

VDBUM Managing Director, Dieter Schnittjer explains: "It is important for us to enlighten our trade visitors on the existing reluctance towards the digitization at the construction site; to convince them that this step will result in transparency, cost-effectiveness and planning security. For this purpose, we will be using LED screens - together with other trade fair exhibitors - to demonstrate with simulations how useful digital networking is. For example, the public sector, as the largest customer in road construction, will as of 2020, tender all major transport construction projects only digitally. As a result, the contractor will have to assume more responsibility in the future, though it will equally offer new purchasing and supply possibilities."

In Hall 5, the information stand of the construction industry association, there will be an area for the demonstration and the testing of a 3D scanner. Building information modeling (BIM) to touch and participate, will be an important part of the trade fair for craftsmen and planners. After all, the aim of the trade fair is also to show builders, engineers, architects, craftsmen and construction managers what advantages BIM offers and how to best meet the technical requirements.

Commercial vehicles construction
The exhibition ground at the South Entrance will become a meeting place for craftsmen and construction companies who will be able to view the current models of commercial vehicles as well as vehicle equipment and fittings. Cargo securing, workshop vehicle equipment and mounted cranes are just some of the focal points of this presentation.

More safety and comfort for the home
Safe, smart, comfortable and energy-saving - these are the key words when it comes to safety and comfort at home. A special show in Hall 8, South Entrance, will be dedicated to the trend, "Safe@Home & SmartHome", which will offer numerous advantages to real estate owners and housing associations. Money can not only be saved through the energy supply; digitalization can lead to new, successful paths, even on the important issue of burglary prevention. On an area of 470 square meters, NordBau will present new products and independent expert advice on the topics of SmartHome, energy saving and home care in the digital age. However, these trends also pose risks. Although Dietmar Walberg, Managing Director of the Working Group for Contemporary Building (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für zeitlichem Bauen), appreciates the digital possibilities for improving comfort at home, he also points out, however, that “the hype around the topics “Safe@Home and SmartHome” is driving up construction costs”. That is why it is important for him to build a bridge between what is technically possible today and what makes sense. That's the reason why Dietmar Walberg appreciates NordBau, which “had been doing its job on independent information since 1956."

Designing living spaces
In Hall 2, visitors can expect a novelty with unlimited design variants of ceramic tiles for outdoor use, which are not only suitable for access roads and terraces, but also for roof terraces. New manufacturing processes make it possible to have frost-proof, light-proof tiles and a lightweight construction. In this hall, everything will revolve around designing walls and floors with high-quality tiles; as well as painting and wall techniques, innovative furnace construction and intelligent electrical engineering, thus making this place a special exhibition hall. Moreover, when it comes to designing modern living spaces, the Stadtgrün (Urban Greenspace) project, must certainly not be missing. The gardening and landscaping presents itself under the motto: Save the front yard! And shows garden samples in front of house scenes.

Modern heating techniques - economical and environmentally friendly
At NordBau, builders and housing associations can find out about economical and environmentally friendly home construction solutions. Schleswig-Holstein's Energy Efficiency Center “SHeff-Z” not only advises interested visitors on innovative and energy-saving ideas for building, but also provides information on intelligent and environmentally friendly options for renovation or insulation and provides a comprehensive overview on the selection of modern heating technologies. Even though oil and gas heating is still one of the most popular systems today, alternative heating technologies such as wood / pellet heating systems, heat pumps, fuel cells and micro cogeneration units are rapidly becoming the new focus of interest. When what system should most appropriately be used, will be fully shown in  Hall 7, for energy technology.

The meeting place for Northern Europe's construction industry and construction management

In addition to a comprehensive exhibition of construction machinery, commercial vehicles, tools and municipal equipment, NordBau will once again be offering an extensive congress program this year: More than 40 training seminars with more than 4,500 participants underline the conference character of Northern Europe's largest compact trade fair for construction. Two-thirds of the events are recognized by the Chamber of Architects and Engineers as an official training measure! In addition, the popular "Site Manager & Foremen" and the nordjob-Bau-Infotag meeting point will be continued for the next generation. Under the motto: "Who will build tomorrow’s construction sites?", NordBau will also be organizing the Student Day (8th to 13th grade classes) with the Institute for Talent Development (IFT) on Thursday of the fair, for the recruitment of junior construction professionals. Over 1,000 interested students from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Lower Saxony have already registered.

The 63rd NordBau edition takes place from the 5th to 9th of September 2018 at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster.
